Berry Buzz
Do you hear that buzz? It’s Wisconsin’s state insect – the honey bee! Don’t be afraid, though – honey bees are very important to producing Wisconsin’s state fruit – cranberries! Let me explain….
You see, many cranberry growers use honey bees, and sometimes bumblebees, to pollinate their cranberry blossoms. Actually, 80% of all pollination is done by bees – and bees are either directly or indirectly responsible for all the food we eat! Cranberry growers like it when bees pollinate their blossoms, because it helps to produce bigger, better cranberries, as well as more berries!
You know how bees collect nectar to make honey, right? Well, bees that pollinate cranberry blossoms collect special nectar, which helps them to produce cranberry honey! And let me tell you, it’s delicious!
Oh, and about those cranberry blossoms? They’re beautiful, and you should totally go check them out! Find out where you can see cranberry blossoms at...
