Sea of Red

It’s tart and tangy… it’s a Thanksgiving staple… and it’s Wisconsin’s state fruit. What is it? The cranberry, of course! Cranberry production is a huge industry for Wisconsin. Our state produces more cranberries than any other state in the U.S., and more than half of the entire world’s supply of cranberries. You’ve probably seen pictures of cranberries floating in their beds at harvest time, right? Many people think cranberries actually grow in water, but that’s not really the case. They grow on vines in damp, moist soil, and the beds are flooded at harvest to make the cranberries float. It’s really pretty cool!
