Harvester

Wisconsin is a great producer of trees.  So many that we are able to take some of them out of the woods to make things like paper, poster board and even houses.
A harvester’s job is to go into the woods and cut down the trees a forester has already marked.  But, a harvester doesn’t go into the woods and cut the designated trees down by hand, they get to use big HARVESTER machines that are pretty amazing.  This machine has an arm that reaches out and saws the tree at the base.  Then the machine picks up the tree and holds it close to the ground so it can cut off all of the branches.  There’s even a computer inside a harvester that then measures the length of the tree and cuts it into identical size logs. After the HARVESTER has cut down the trees, another machine called a forwarder picks up the piles of logs and carries them out of the woods.
