Raptors

How well do you know your raptors? Raptors are birds of prey. Hawks and Osprey are examples of raptors. The word, "raptor" comes from a Latin word meaning "to grab" or "to snatch," which raptors are very good at. All birds of prey have excellent vision. If a hawk could read, it could read a newspaper headline from 2 miles away. Hawks can even see some kinds of color. You can look at a raptor's talons and tell things about it too. If they have long skinny talons, they hunt for other birds. The long skinny talons let them snag birds from the air. If they have short talons, they hunt mice and rodents, grabbing them off the ground.
