FOLLOW THAT TREE

Making a log home isn’t what it used to be! Hi-tech harvesting machines can cut a tree, strip it of its branches, and cut it into logs of even lengths—all in less than a minute! Then logs are shipped to log home manufacturers where they are pre-fitted for a house. Once the logs are shaped and test-fitted, they can be taken to a lot, fitted together, and viola—a log home structure is born! That’s a bit different from the olden days—and so is the way we manage our forests. Today, forest managers control tree harvesting so there will be a steady supply of trees for the future.
