INSECT COLLECTOR

An insect collector is a device that helps you collect small insects without harming them. Here are the items you’ll need:

A Jar, with a lid
• 2 feet of flexible plastic tubing, about _ inch inside diameter
• Scissors
• A 1-inch square of gauze, cheesecloth, or screening
• A small rubber band
• A power drill with a large drill bit (1/4 –inch)

What to do:
1. Get an adult to help you with the first step. With the power drill, drill two holes in the lid.

2. Cut the plastic tubing in half with scissors. Push each piece through one of the holes in the lid.

3. Use the rubber band to fasten the gauze square over the end of one piece of the tubing. Make sure you put it on the end that will be inside the jar.

4. Screw the lid on the jar tightly and have fun!

Remember: Collecting insects is a great way to learn about them, just don’t forget to let them back into the wild when you’re done!
