EPHEMERAL PONDS
What’s an “ephemeral pond?” No, it’s not a location for the next epic sci-fi movie. Ephemeral ponds are low-lying areas that fill up with water from the melting winter snow and heavy spring rain showers. These temporary wetlands produce food for developing amphibians, reptiles and migrating birds. Because they’re shallow, they dry up quite quickly and usually disappear by early to mid-summer.
