EPHEMERAL
PONDS
What’s an “ephemeral pond?” No, it’s not a location
for the next epic sci-fi movie. Ephemeral ponds are low-lying areas that fill
up with water from the melting winter snow and heavy spring rain showers. These
temporary wetlands produce food for developing amphibians, reptiles and migrating
birds. Because they’re shallow, they dry up quite quickly and usually disappear
by early to mid-summer. And speaking of water, you can find a cool water word
