INVASIVE PLANTS
Invasive plants are plants that are not native to Wisconsin. They are taking over and destroying our native plant populations. Unfortunately, some of these plants are so abundant they can’t be completely eliminated, but they can be controlled to allow our native plants to grow.

These are just some of the non-native plants found in Wisconsin’s natural areas:
Garlic Mustard
Showy Bush Honeysuckle
Morrow’s Honeysuckle
Tartarian Honeysuckle
Purple Loosestrife
Common Buckthorn
Black Locust
Dame’s Rocket
Japanese Knotweed
Black Swallow-wort

How can you stop this invasion?
• Learn to identify non-native plants.
• Learn the different control methods for each plant.
• Find a club in your area that sponsors weed control programs, such as tug-a-suckle at Wyalusing State Park or Milwaukee’s “Weed-out!” event.
• Check out your own yard and remove and destroy invasive plants.
• Always try to use native plants when landscaping.
• Never dig up plants in the wild and plant them in your garden.
