GOT WATER
Seventy percent of all Wisconsinites get their drinking water from groundwater.
After we use water, it must be replaced or recharged. Mother Nature replaces groundwater
through rain or snow-melt, but unfortunately she can’t replace it as fast
as we use it. So, we need to protect this valuable resource.
Here’s how you can help prevent groundwater contamination:
• Take hazardous household chemical waste to a Clean Sweep drop off site
or contact the DNR on where to dispose of the waste.
• Tell your
parents not to use lots of lawn chemicals.
• Purchase environmentally
friendly household products.
Now that you are taking charge to prevent
contamination, let’s talk about water conservation. Here are some great
ways to conserve water:
• When you’re not using water…turn
it off.
• When you see a leaky faucet, let your parents know so
they can fix it.
• When you’re done watering the lawn, turn
off the hose.
