FISHER RELOCATION

Have you ever seen a fisher? This species has been gone from Tennessee for 200 to 250 years. To help the fisher population in Tennessee, Wisconsin has begun a fisher relocation program that live traps the animals, and then sends them to Tennessee to be reintroduced. A few quick facts about fishers:

• They can be real dark colored, really light colored, or kind of a medium brown.

• The males are bigger than the females.

• Despite their name, fishers don’t hunt fish! Their prey of choice include snowshoe hares, rodents, birds, and even porcupines!
