CWD

In case you don’t know, Chronic Wasting Disease—or CWD—was first discovered in 1967 in mule deer in Colorado. The disease affects the central nervous system and the brain of a deer, and a sick deer can pass it along to a healthy deer. CWD is similar to the mad cow disease that infected cattle in Europe. But unlike mad cow disease, there currently is no evidence that CWD can infect humans.


In 2002, the first three deer with chronic wasting disease were found in Wisconsin. It’s a serious problem because it can spread from the infected area to the whole state. Scientists are doing everything they can to learn more about this disease and how it spreads. For more information on the disease, you can go to:
