Hi, my name is Max.
I was only six years old when I got my first job. It was a Harley Davidson Dealer show with an actress from American Pie 2. I even got to wear the 100th Anniversary leather jacket! From there I’ve been in numerous short films including a role in a feature-length thriller titled Afterthought and I’ve done a lot of print ads. I got involved with ITO after responding to a casting notice. They sent me lines, I memorized them before the audition, I walked in, auditioned, and they said I nailed it! Then, a minute later, they ran to me and said, “Hey, can you memorize these lines for a commercial in oh, say five minutes?” So, I did and I got that job too. It’s a Wilderness Resort commercial about how “it takes my mom forever to find something she likes, but not when we went to the Wilderness!"
I like having fun and joking around with the crew. It’s also fun to see how to use different lighting for different shots. I love to make movies with my friends at home, so watching the way they film different projects gives me ideas of my own. I love meeting new people. ITO has given me the opportunity to learn about a lot of different things and meet lots of new people! I also love how well they treat us kids. The crew on a lot of the jobs I get treat us kids like we’re not even there, but not on the ITO shoots! I’ve been really lucky!
Q: What do you do for fun when you’re not shooting Into the Outdoors?
A: When I’m not shooting ITO I can be found either reading, writing or making a film of my own. So far I have made House, a haunted house movie, and How 2 Slay Your Best Friend in 5 Days, a vampire film.
Q: How do your friends and family feel about you being a host on Into the Outdoors?
A: My friends think it’s cool. They like the fact that they have a friend on TV. My family enjoys seeing how happy I am when I am on set.
Q: What is the best part about being on Into the Outdoors? And the coolest thing you’ve ever gotten to do on a shoot?
A: The best part is that I’ve learned so much through the segments I do. I think the coolest thing I’ve done on a shoot is see how chemicals are added to water to filter it all.
Q: What did you learn about the shooting process of Into the Outdoors that you didn’t know before you did it the first… second… or third time?
A: When they said it was a small budget shooting, I thought they meant like a home video camera. But, when I asked how much the camera costs, I learned it was more than I will make in a lifetime.
Q: What kind of music do you listen to? And do you listen to it between shots or locations on a shoot?
A: I enjoy listening to rock music. My favorite band is New Found Glory. I usually listen on my way there, to get motivated. I think life is one big movie. When you listen to music it’s like your life’s sound track. I never listen to music during a shoot because there is so much to see and do.
Q: What is a normal shoot for you like? Do you stay in a hotel the night before or after? Do you have to wear make-up or special clothes? Who decides these things? Do you hang out with the crew? I have so many questions I don’t know where to start… tell me everything?
A: A normal shoot for me is going to a hotel the night before and waiting for the producer/director to check my wardrobe and then get up VERY early the next morning. Shoots last around 8 hours. The movie I did, Afterthought, took 24 hours a day for an entire month to shoot. People say you get bored with all the down time in acting, but there is so much to watch! I like to hang out with the crew. The wardrobe I have to wear is mine and I don’t need make-up. I must be beautiful already! Just kidding.
Q: Is it hard to make up school work when you have to miss class for an Into the Outdoors shoot? When do you make up the work? And, would your parents still let you be a part of the ITO cast if your grades started to go down?
A: It’s usually easy to catch up with class. I get straight A’s. I usually ask for homework ahead of time, but my teacher never gets it to me, so I just do it when I get back. I wouldn’t let my grades go down for ITO. I work hard everyday in school because along with ITO, I have been in commercials, print ads and movies. I’ve missed my friend’s birthday 2 years in a row now, but it’s all worth it.
Q: Of all the Into the Outdoors episodes you’ve done, which one is your favorite? Why? Was the segment’s topic really interesting, or did you just have fun with the crew?
A: Of all the ITO episodes I’ve done, the paper segment was the best. I had tons of fun with the crew and I learned a lot. The segment’s topic was really interesting too.
Q: What is your favorite movie… and your favorite part, of course?
A: My favorite film is Monster Squad, an old 1980’s film about middle school kids who think that all of the “classic” monsters are invading their town. It starred Fred Decker and the special effects were by Stan Winston (Alien.) My favorite part is when they break into Dracula’s house and the Wolfman attacks. My favorite line is what Fred Decker yells to his friends.
Q: If you could be ANYTHING in the world when you grow up, what would it be? What’s so cool about it… and have you always wanted to be one?
A: I obviously want to be an actor. That’s why I auditioned for Into the Outdoors. I think it’s cool to be in someone else’s shoes. You can escape the worries of your own life. I have wanted to act since I was 4 years old and saw Monster Squad for the first time. I ran downstairs with my blankie and screamed, “I want to be an actress!” My mom later told me the difference between actors and actresses. How embarrassing!
