Adventure Team

Hi, my name is Mason Sammarco.

I (am 8 years old and) go to elementary school in Fox Point, WI. I have one sister, Lucia, two cats named Sugar and Gizmo, a goldfish named Fin-Fin and my mom and dad. At school I participate in the school play, sports, and dance. It’s a lot of fun. I'm also involved in Tae Kwon Do and I play the Conga drum. When my mom told me I was cast on INTO THE OUTDOORS, I was very excited! I felt like exploding! I thought this would be a great experience for me. I am really excited about being on this show because I love the outdoors, and I have a really funny director. She makes me laugh. I also think it’s really cool that young kids get to teach people of all ages new things about the outdoors, and that I get to talk to real American Indians.

Question - Answer

Q:
How did you get picked to be on Into the Outdoors?

A: I have an agent that had me audition for the show and I was selected.

Q: How do your friends and family feel about you being a host on Into the Outdoors?

A: They are so excited.  They can’t wait to see it!

Q:
What is the best part about being on Into the Outdoors?  And the coolest thing you’ve ever gotten to do on a shoot?

A: The best part about being on Into the Outdoors is being in the outdoors and learning new things.  The coolest thing I did on a shoot was when I learned how Indians made maple syrup out of maple sap.

Q: Did you learn anything interesting on your shoot that you didn’t know before?

A: Yes, I learned that Indians used parts of dead animals not only for eating but to carry water and to do other useful things.

Q: What did you learn about the shooting process of Into the Outdoors that you didn’t know before you did it?

A: Yes, I leaned that, “one more time” doesn’t necessarily mean only “one more time” .

Q: What is a normal shoot for you like?  Do you get to travel?

A: First, my Dad and I traveled up to northern Wisconsin. We got to stay in a cool hotel then got up in the morning and went to the first location in the forest on an Indian Reservation where I recorded my on-camera portion. We did a few takes and shot from a few different angles. I interviewed an American Indian about Maple Sap. Then we traveled to a different city and stayed in a hotel again and the next morning we got up and drove to a different Indian Reservation where I interviewed another American Indian about the circle of life. It was great. I loved it. I also got to go to Madison to record my voice for the show. I had to do one ‘safety” recording after each take, to make sure that it was correct. The sound booth was cool, they had a lot of technology and it was like a little closet. It was a little scary when I first went in it, but then I got used to it and it was fun!

Q: Do you have to wear make-up or special clothes?  Who decides these things?  Do you hang out with the crew?  I have so many questions I don’t know where to start… tell me everything?

A: No I don’t need to where make-up or special clothes. The director decides these things. And yes I do hang out with the crew. They’re great. They’re a lot of fun and great to work with and learn from.

Q: Is it hard to make up school work when you have to miss class for an Into the Outdoors shoot?  When do you make up the work?  And, would your parents still let you be a part of the ITO cast if your grades started to go down?

A: It’s not hard to make up the schoolwork.  I can do it while we travel or when I get home.  No, my parents would NOT let me be part of ITO if my grades started to go down.

Q: How many Into the Outdoors episodes have you been in?

A: One.

Q: What do you do for fun when you’re not shooting Into the Outdoors?

A: I play catch with my Dad. I love to watch movies with my family at home and in the theater. I like to go to Alterra Coffee shop with my Mom and Dad too (I get hot chocolate). I also like to play tennis, play my conga, launch rockets, do batting practice in the back yard, and shoot hoops. I love riding my bike and taking trips with my family too.

Q: What kind of music do you listen to?  And do you listen to it between shots or locations on a shoot?

A: I listen to the Foo Fighters, the Rolling Stones, and I like Bon Jovi and I like some Rap music too.  I listen to music between shots.

Q: What is your favorite movie and why?

A: My favorite movie is Kung Fu Panda II because Jack Black is the funniest actor of all time.

Q: Have you done any acting before? If so, what has been your favorite role(s)?

A: Yes.  My favorite role has been in my school play
.

Q: What kind of activities do you participate in at school and in your community?

A: I participate in the school play, field trips, raising money for Japan
.

Q: If you could be ANYTHING in the world when you grow up, what would it be?  What’s so cool about it… and is that what you’ve you always wanted to be?

A: Well, I want to be a geologist because I love rocks and minerals.  I’ve always wanted to be one
.
