Hi, my name is Autumn.
I am 12-years-old and love acting, dancing and singing. I have been in the traveling Broadway show of Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, First Stage’s Seussical and played the role of Annie. My dream is to get to Broadway and be a professional singer and actress. I love the outdoors and have a passion for animals and nature. I love camping – especially having S’mores around the campfire. My favorite food is spaghetti and meatballs.
Q: What do you do for fun when you’re not shooting Into the Outdoors?
A: I love animals and run a dog business in my neighborhood for people who work. I love singing, dancing and acting in local theatre, and playing with my dog Prince. I also enjoy swimming and hanging out with my friends. I’m also a master at video games.
Q: How do your friends and family feel about you being a host on Into the Outdoors?
A: My friends are really supportive of me being a host on Into the Outdoors. My family is really glad I get to do it because we love to camp, canoe and hike so hanging out in nature is second nature to me.
Q: What is the best part about being on Into the Outdoors? And the coolest thing you’ve ever gotten to do on a shoot?
A: Ever since I’ve been little, I’ve been known for asking a million questions about a million things, so I love the fact that I get to be an ITO host and ask so many questions. It is really great learning all these amazing things that I would normally never learn about in my typical day.
Q: What did you learn about the shooting process of Into the Outdoors that you didn’t know before you did it the first… second… or third time?
A: I was absolutely amazed that it took many camera takes of each segment to make sure it was perfect. Often it can takeOften it can take 4 – 8 takes to get it right and get enough angles of the same shot so the editor has enough footage to work with when putting it together. It is really neat because it is like a big jigsaw puzzle and every piece is important to make the whole.
Q: What kind of music do you listen to? And do you listen to it between shots or locations on a shoot?
A: I love listening to Hip Hop, Pop, classic 80’s, Beetles and Broadway show tunes. So much is going on when we are filming the ITO shows that I haven’t listened to music on location because it would be too distracting. I always want to be prepared so I’m usually reviewing my script and listening to what the photographer, producer and audio engineer are doing so I’m ready for the next take.
Q: What is a normal shoot for you like? Do you stay in a hotel the night before or after? Do you have to wear make-up or special clothes? Who decides these things? Do you hang out with the crew? I have so many questions I don’t know where to start… tell me everything?
A: Every shoot is different. Sometimes it is a just a day trip and sometimes you need to stay at a hotel. I wear a little make-up sometimes, but not very much. It is best to look natural. Your clothes are extremely important because they’ve got to fit the scene of the shoot and be appropriate for the weather conditions. Whether it is cold or hot outside you better be prepared. One time we were in the middle of shooting when a huge thunderstorm rolled in and we had to run for cover. The crew is really fun to be around and very helpful. They tell us what is going on so we are prepared and ready for the next scene. As an ITO cast member you need to have a lot of patience because shooting can take a long time and you need to be flexible because things can change at a moments notice.
Q: Is it hard to make up school work when you have to miss class for an Into the Outdoors shoot? When do you make up the work? And, would your parents still let you be a part of the ITO cast if your grades started to go down?
A: As long as you are diligent and work hard you can easily make up assignments that you miss when you are on a shoot. My mom makes me bring my backpack with me always. Also, my middle school teachers have been incredibly supportive if I’m gone from school to do TV shoots. And hey… the ITO segments are extremely educational so it is like being in an outdoor classroom. Who could argue with that?
Q: Of all the Into the Outdoors episodes you’ve done, which one is your favorite? Why? Was the segment’s topic really interesting, or did you just have fun with the crew?
A: My favorite episode so far was shooting the Cow Power segment because it was awesome working with the animals and being on a farm. I’m crazy about all animals and have never been afraid of them. I was amazed at the technical advances that the farmers use now. Wow, who knew cows were natural conservationists by using their poop for electrical power? One day I’d like to have a huge ranch with horses. Deep down I’m a country girl even though I live in the suburbs.
Q: What is your favorite movie… and your favorite part, of course?
A: My favorite movies are Pirates of the Caribbean and Master of Disguise. I love Pirates because it has a lot of intrigue and action but is also very hilarious. Johnny Depp is amazing. I love Master of Disguise because it is so unpredictable and funny and Dana Carvey is a comic genius.
Q: If you could be ANYTHING in the world when you grow up, what would it be? What’s so cool about it… and have you always wanted to be one?
A: I want to win American Idol one day and be a professional singer or actress. My parents say I started singing and acting when I was 2-years-old in a diaper and I’ve never stopped. I have a bizarre gift for memorizing entire Broadway musicals or theatre scripts in just days. I love singing and acting because you can lift someone’s spirits and make them smile from what you do on stage.
