Hi, my name is Austin.
I am 13 years old and go to East Middle school in Oak Creek. I have three brothers: Darin, Jordan and Nolan. I love to skateboard, swim, act and play baseball and basketball. I love to entertain people. I've been involved in First Stage Children's Theater in Milwaukee since I was 9 and have been in two shows with them – in the first one I played Jeremy Jacob in How I Became a Pirate and in the second I was Cry Baby William in Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business. I have also performed in numerous local theater shows.
When my mom told me I was cast on INTO THE OUTDOORS, I was very excited! When they asked if I would be scared to hold a bear cub I said, "No way – that is so cool!" I want to be on TV when I grow up. When I was 9 I even tried to convince my parents to move to Hollywood because I thought that was the only place I could get onto TV. I was so wrong!
I am really excited about being on this show because I love the outdoors, and I love that kids can show what's going on outside in Wisconsin. I think it’s important to learn and understand these things. I have seen the show in school too, so I know that shows like this make learning fun! I didn't know this many things were going on around us in Wisconsin, but all we have to do is get INTO THE OUTDOORS!
Q: What do you do for fun when you’re not shooting Into the Outdoors?
A: I like to play baseball, football, and many other sports. I also like to play with my little brothers.
Q: How do your friends and family feel about you being a host on Into the Outdoors?
A: They are really excited for me and they want to see me on TV. They think it will be cool to see what the final product will look like.
Q: What is the best part about being on Into the Outdoors? And the coolest thing you’ve ever gotten to do on a shoot?
A: The best part was when we pulled the bears out of their dens. The most fun is when they would weigh them and I got to hold a yearling and some two-pound cubs.
Q: Did you learn anything interesting on your shot that you didn’t know before?
A: I learned that the female cubs, after they are kicked out, go where the mother made her last den or the stay in close range.
Q: What did you learn about the video process of Into the Outdoors that you didn’t know before you did it?
A: I learned that you have to do many different takes, not just one.
Q: What is a normal shoot like for you? Do you stay in a hotel the night before or after? Do you have to wear makeup or special clothes? Who decides these things? Do you hang out with the crew? I have so many questions I don’t know where to start; tell me everything!
A: I stayed in a hotel overnight and had dinner with the crew of Into the Outdoors. I didn’t have to wear makeup, but I did have to wear lots of clothing to stay warm.
Q: Is it hard to make up school work when you have to miss class for an Into the Outdoors shoot? When do you make up the work? And would your parents still let you be a part of the Into the Outdoors cast if your grades started to go down??
A: It's not hard to make up the homework – it just takes time. My parents would most likely not let me be on the show if I didn't work hard. They told me that I need to have good grades in order to be able to do special things like this.
Q: What kind of music do you listen to? And do you listen to it between shots or locations on a shoot?
A: I like all types of music. I mostly like rock and slow rock. I didn’t listen to any music because there was no time to because we were outside all day, but seeing bears is way more fun than listing to music.
Q: What is your favorite movie (and your favorite part, of course)?
A: I like the Mighty Ducks series because hockey is one of my favorite sports. My favorite part is when they were trying to teach one of the new recruits how to ice skate.
Q: What kind of activities do you participate in at school and in your community?
A: I play baseball in my community and I love to do math.
Q: If you could be ANYTHING in the world when you grow up, what would it be? What’s so cool about it – and have you always wanted to be one?
A: want to be an actor because that’s what I'm good at and love to do, and I've been doing it almost my whole life.
